I WAS A SUNNI WHO BECAME SHIA, AND MY FAMILY HAVE TURNED THEIR BACK ON ME. WHAT TO DO?

Question:

I was born a Sunni Muslim and worked with shia muslims for 13years. 2 months ago I became a Shia, through extensive research.

When I told my father, who is a moderate Sunni, and my brothers who are Wahhabis, they started calling me bad things, so I stopped visiting them. I called from my dad to visit. He tells me that Shiism was made by a Jew named Abdulla ibn Saba, and that they worship Imam Ali (a.s.).  I advised dad it is not true through my study.

I don’t know what to do, please advise me. No matter what I tell my family they won’t listen. My father said he will not forgive me in this life or the afterlife if I don’t turn back.

Answer:

May Allah help you make the right decision.

Obviously what your father says is only based on accusation against Shi’a, and has absolutely no truth in it. For the time being, don’t waste your time with trying to convince them. Just continue your research to convince yourself and ask Allah to guide you to the right path of Islam. I’m sure anyone without prejudice, who studies the school of Ahlul-Bayt (a.s) will not hesitate to be a Shi’a.

At the end of the day, if you choose a wrong path to please your dad, he won’t be able to rescue you on the day of judgment. Think of a Christian who found the truth of Islam but his parents won’t forgive him if he becomes a Muslim. Do you think it really matters?!
